A Car Show, Battery Spencer and Moleskine!

So, funny story (well, sort of): it was Mother's Day and my husband's birthday today. This past Monday, I went into the Moleskine shop a few blocks from our apartment to buy some paper to write a letter to my Grandparents on. While there, I saw their electronic pen set that I thought might make a good birthday present for Robert. But I thought I'd think about it for a couple more days. Then on Wednesday, I went back in there to buy it. While I was browsing around the store, I came across their Snoopy/Peanuts box set on display. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a bit Snoopy mad. Anyway, I was very tempted to buy it for myself, but I resisted! So I went home, hid Robert's present and then dropped him a hint online about how the Snoopy box would make a lovely Mother's Day present! Fast forward to today where we were trading gifts, and he'd gotten it for me! But he'd bought it before I'd even seen it in the store on the Wednesday. Ha. Great minds, eh?

Anyway, the past week has been a mix of emotions. I felt a bit useless for a while, commiserated with Robert, then decided I needed to start myself a small project which I will be sharing more on my art blog. But the weekend was pretty good. Our toddler has a few things in common with his maternal grandpa and loves cars and music. So we took him to a little car show an hour away near San Jose. But we got a little bit rained out, so the day wasn't as successful as I would have liked.

And a happy mother's day to any mums reading this!!! It's my second mother's day, and although I feel like we're going through a bit of a rough patch in our toddler's development (oh God, the tantrums!!), I've loved being a mum these past couple of years and can't wait for more motherly adventures. However, it was hard being away from my mum. I'm glad we Skype every week, but it sort of sucked not being able to give her real hugs and have the toddler give his Nanna some real hugs, too. Likewise, my mother in law cried when she received some flowers we sent to her. I'm missing family, and special family days like mother's day aren't the easiest when you can't hug and be with those that you're celebrating. (It'll be interesting when father's day comes around as I think it happens on a different date here than in Australia. Oh well. I guess my dad might get two father's days this year? LOL.)
San Francisco: our new home from the top of the world!

But we had a lovely combined mother's day and Robert's birthday today. Thankfully, the weather fined up a bit and we ventured over the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge again to explore Battery Spencer. We had a wander around and viewed and photographed the AMAZING views. It felt like we really were on the top of the world!! The drive was also amazing. It took us up and down the insanely steep hills. It's amazing that you only have to go a relatively small distance to get out of the city for a bit and breathe some slightly fresher air.

Views for miles!

Following that, we had an awesome lunch over at Sausalito again. I'd happily live there. LOL.

So I'm glad the week ended well. It was getting a little pear-shaped for a while. Robert even had to almost force me out the door just to go to a ballet class, which is something I've really enjoyed recently.

And in saying that, it is time for me to sleep! I leave you with some pictures from the weekend and the amazing views. I think there have seldom been such moments in my life where I have felt more insignificant and tiny!
